Richard M. Freeman, M.D.
Dr. Freeman who is originally from Charlotte, North Carolina was born May 06,1941. He attended North Carolina State University with a B.S. in Physics and Mathematics. He then worked as an Aerospace Research Engineer before pursuing his medical career. Dr. Freeman started medical school at the University of North Carolina. He interned at the UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. Upon completing Medical School in July 1973, Dr. Freeman became a Medical Officer at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. Freeman started in Private Practice in September 1975 in Opelika, Alabama before practicing in Auburn, Alabama.
Dr. Freeman has served as Vice President and Secretary-Treasurer for the Medical Association for the State of Alabama, was a member of the Medicaid DUR Board, member of the Medicaid Pharmacy and Therapeutic Board and is on the Board of Medical Examiners for the State of Alabama.
Dr. Freeman is married to Sherry Spann Freeman. They have two children and six grandchildren. While not at work, Dr. Freeman enjoys spending time with each of his grandchildren. He also enjoys meeting friends at Starbucks for lattes.
Ellen L. Royal, M.D.
Dr. Ellen Royal grew up in Birmingham, Alabama and graduated
from Mountain Brook High School. She attended Emory
University and received an undergraduate degree in Chemistry
and English. She then attended the University of South
Alabama College of Medicine for her medical degree.
She graduated from medical school in 1994, then attended
the Medical University of South Carolina Pediatrics
residency program from 1994-1997. She was chief resident
at MUSC from 1997-1998. Dr. Royal returned to Alabama
the summer of 1998 to join the pediatric practice of
Dr. Richard M. Freeman.
Dr. Royal is married to Dr. Kevin Royal who practices
Internal Medicine in Opelika. They have three children,
Emma, born in 1998, Patrick, born in 2001 and Benjamin
born in 2004. They live in Opelika and are active members
of the First United Methodist Church of Opelika.
In her free time, Dr. Royal enjoys spending time with
her husband and children. She also likes to read, work-out
and play tennis. She is a member of the Lee County Medical
Society, Medical Association of the State of Alabama,
American Medical Association and the American Academy
of Pediatrics. She is board certified in Pediatrics.
She is an active staff member of East Alabama Medical
Andrew W. Stubblefield, M.D.
Dr. Wes Stubblefield, who is originally from Vernon,
Alabama, attended Lipscomb University in Nashville,
Tennessee where he graduated magna cum laude with a
degree in Biology. He them moved to Birmingham, where
he attended the UAB School of Medicine and where he
met and married his wife, Jennifer. Their daughter,
Peyton, who was born in 2002, is now an upcoming first
grade student. After graduating in 2004, he and his
family traveled back to Nashville for residency training
in pediatrics at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. Dr.
Stubblefield joined Drs. Freeman and Royal in July 2007.
When not at work, he enjoys family activities, reading,
personal fitness, technology and photography. Dr. Stubblefield
is board certified in pediatrics, and is a member of
the Lee County Medical Society, the Medical Association
of the State of Alabama, the American Medical Association,
and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is also an
active staff member at East Alabama Medical Center.
